The aim of the paper is to investigate the profile and the local embedeeddeness of new dynamic small-scale agrifood firms operating in Greece. The paper presents a critical review of the main points of the intense relative theoretical debates currently underway and the results of secondary data analysis and field-work survey realized in the framework of a recently implemented Research Project financed by the EU and the Greek Ministry of Education. The first results of the survey shows that new ventures share a set of promising qualities, nevertheless they keep suffering from crucial long-standing problems typical of traditional small agrifood firms. Hence their success is extremely fragile
